Vaiju Naravane, Paris based correspondent of a national newspaper, will be in conversation with Jyotirmaya Sharma (Professor of political sciences at UoH), on her first novel Transgressions at the Alliance Française of Hyderabad on Friday 4 April at 7 PM.
Book Excerpts: On a late summer evening, Kranti, a beautiful Indian fashion designer, stages her own death in an apartment in Paris. She leaves behind her diaries and paintings, and bequeaths her entire estate to her French lover. Robert-Pierre is a married man, a psychiatrist, who has so far managed to keep his two lives separate. As he tries to make sense of Kranti’s death, his own life begins to unravel. Meanwhile, Shanti, Kranti’s sister, travels from India to Paris to contest the will, unaware that Robert-Pierre has unearthed her family’s long-concealed past.
What terrible secrets lie hidden in the pages of Kranti’s notebooks? Did they drive her to take her own life? And how will things change for Robert-Pierre after Shanti’s arrival?
Vaiju Naravane’s searing novel moves seamlessly between India and Paris and keeps the reader on tenterhooks right up to the last shattering page. So book lovers get ready to hear more from her.
