“Miss Meena” – A play in Telugu

Theater lovers do not miss the play, Ms. Meena, by the Theatre Outreach Unit, University of Hyderabad.

‘Ms. Meena’ is based on a story written by Rashmi Ruth Devadasan, inspired by the classic play ‘The Visit (1956)’ by the Swiss-German Playwright, Friedrich Durrenmatt. It was adapted by Perch Theatre Group, Chennai and has been performed all over India under the direction of Rajiv Krishnan. This Telugu version was developed in collaboration with Perch, Chennai and directed by Chandra Sekhar Indla, a research scholar at the University of Hyderabad.

Formerly Malli, returns to her native village after a decade to make her final film. She is now an iconic film star. In the intervening years, the village has descended into a state of dire poverty. With news of Ms. Meena’s arrival there is a new burst of energy and hope in the village and she is hailed as their saviour. Ms. Meena arrives and promises to make the villagers prosperous beyond their wildest dreams. In return, she demands a terrible price.

Theatre Outreach Unit has been travelling all over Andhra Pradesh with this play reaching more than sixty thousand audience till date. The performance at Lamakaan on 28th would be their 70th show.
