Colonial Cousins, a band formed by Indian duo Hariharan and Leslie Lewis, are performing live in Hyderabad at the Shilpkala Vedika on Sunday June 3 at 7:30 pm to raise funds for Sparsh Hospice towards building a corpus and generating awareness on cancer and palliative care. The duo will perform for a noble cause. Their exceptional Indian and Western music has a large fan following as do their individual compositions.
Under the banner of Magnasound, Hariharan and Leslie Lewis released their debut album Colonial Cousins in October 1996, which became a platinum hit. They also won MTV Asia Viewer’s Choice and US Billboard Choice awards. Their song Krishna won the Star Award for Best Music video.
Hariharan, an established ghazal singer and pioneer of fusion, has been singing in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Telugu movies. Hariharan was awarded the Padma Shri and the Yesudas award for his outstanding performance in 2004.
Leslie Lewis changed his path after the public associated him with remixes. In 2003, he began concentrating on original compositions. His most famous works include doing a remix job for Asha Bhosle’s Rahul & I album and writing musical scores for the legendary diva’s album Janam Samjha Karo. Lewis also scored for Suneeta Rao in Paree HoonMain, pop diva Alisha Chinnai in Bombay Girl and KK in Pal.
