As a part of celebrating the Heritage Week, Alliance Française of Hyderabad is holding up an art exhibition by R. Sri. Murugan. He is one of the most celebrated artists today. The event will be inaugurated on Tuesday, 19th November at 6.30 pm. The event will be on view till Friday, 29th November from 9.30 am to 6 pm at Alliance Française of Hyderabad, plot number 4, Aurora Colony, Road number 3, Banjara Hills.
R. Sri. Murugan’s work on heritage monuments has been recognized by INTACH, Architecture and Tourism departments of AP and Karnataka. Mechanical Engineer as qualification, civil engineer as a profession for 20 years, he has also freelanced as an artist for various architects, design centers, builders and promoters. His drawings and painting bear the name ‘Peeli’ that is coined by him, for about 50 years. He specializes in line sketches (pen), and paintings in various mediums. In addition he has also created murals and metal etchings for various clients. He has participated in about 28 one man shows and numerous group shows, including one at Alliance Française Bangalore way back in the year 1970, where he was adjudged by Sveteslov Roerich.
‘Hyd & Sec’ was his first event in Hyderabad, after his move from Bangalore in the year 1998, and primarily focused around the heritage and monumental buildings of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Over the years he has showcased his work at places like JNTU, ICCR Art Gallery, Public Gardens, Taj Palace (Delhi), Marriott Hotel (Hyderabad). He is presently teaching Architecture at JNTU, and in his spare time he works incessantly at his home-studio, and teaches art to enthusiastic students.
